Body Image Series - Leaked Nudes
As you've probably seen in the news there's been some celebrities intimate photos have got out into the public. There was also a lot of comments from other celebrities - some very helpful and supportive of people, others were completely wrong and disgusting a brought out the feminist in me a little.
To start with I hope the person/people who leaked them is ashamed of themselves. I'm sure they'd love it if explicit photos were shared all around the world for people to be able to view in a matter of seconds.
I also am angry at the reception the photos got. Some people even said 'well serves them right for taking the photos in the first place'. No, that's completely and utterly wrong. If someone wants to take an intimate photo of them self then that is completely and utterly their decision and quite frankly is not the business of anyone else. Who this person shares their photo with is also down to them. When the image is then stolen and shared on this is illegal.
Not only is it illegal it's morally wrong. To any men that have searched for that image on purpose..image that happened to your daughter, your sister or even a female friend..surely then you realise these poor celebrities have been violated.
All of this occuring has reminded me that a lot of peoples attitudes are still in the 16th century. People still see women as objects and something that are there purely for them. NEWSFLASH..we are not objects we are people and should be your equals. We deserve to be treated with respect and taken seriously. The images being leaked are not dirty or disgusting, they're just of a woman's body. Women have as much right to be open about sex and sexuality as men do and that's something that is still not happening in this day and age.
